Meet Eliza Blankenship
Owner and founder of Blankenship Counseling
I’m so glad you’re here! I’m honored that you’re considering allowing me to support you in your journey. Beginning therapy and finding a therapist that fits your needs can feel daunting and complicated. My goal is to make this process feel as simple as possible so you feel empowered to make the next step.
I’d love to share a little more about myself and my approach to counseling so you can get a sense of whether we might be a good fit. If what you read resonates with you, I’d love to connect with you for a consultation.
MY APPROACH
Counseling is not a “one size fits all”. Counseling should feel personal, collaborative, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals.
People are far more than the struggles that bring them to therapy. Every person comes to counseling with their own unique experiences, relationships, history, strengths, and goals. Because of this, I take a personalized approach to therapy, seeing each client as a whole person with many different facets. Healing can take many forms, and together we will find approaches, tools, and insights that best support your individual growth and well-being.
I draw interventions from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), strength-based and person-centered therapy. Supporting clients through a trauma-informed lens is also integral to my style of counseling. I also enjoy incorporating creative interventions, including art therapy, when appropriate, to help clients process emotions and experiences.
My goal as a counselor is not only to provide a supportive space for healing, but also to offer practical tools and clear direction for growth. I strive to have clients leave our sessions feeling understood, encouraged, and equipped with realistic steps they can apply in everyday life.
I’m passionate about working with teens and adults navigating anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), grief, relationship struggles and life transitions.
EDUCATION AND CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I then completed my Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. During my master’s program I completed my internship at The Amelia Center, part of Children’s of Alabama, where I worked with children, adults, and families navigating life after the death of a loved one.
ABOUT ME
Outside of counseling, I love spending time with friends and family. This usually looks like sharing meals together and going thrifting! I also have a strong passion for music and the arts. I’ve spent almost 10 years teaching violin, piano, and music theory at a local nonprofit music school for children and teens. I enjoy painting, writing, bead working, and basically anything artsy!
